ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Avelyn, a simple tailor located in Peterborough, Ontario.

 

Pronouns are they/them or she/her.

 

After a varied and exciting early career, I eventually wound up in the Fashion Technique and Design program at George Brown College. This was a strange choice for someone who had never shown any interest in the runways of Paris, who couldn't name five famous designers, but the more I learned, the more I realized that I was exactly where I needed to be. People who aren't models, who don't replace their wardrobe every season, who struggle to find the right fit need clothes too.

I always cringe when I hear someone say they're the wrong size for an article of clothing. They've been taught that their body is a bad fit, but I disagree. The body is never wrong for the clothing. The clothing is wrong for the body. People are wonderfully varied in shape, size, and personal style, and I want to make sure everyone has clothes that are comfortable and beautiful.

 

Industry secret: whenever you see celebrities in magazines, their clothing has been tailored, even if it’s just a t-shirt. These little changes are often much faster, easier, and cheaper than you’d think, but they make a world of difference.

 

The right fit is about more than shape, though. The human mind is just as varied and beautiful as the human body, and the right clothes will fit both. Your style might be fun or reserved, classy or flashy, whatever you find beautiful. That connection between personal taste and design shows in how you enjoy what you’re wearing, regardless of whether your style fits some industry fashion.

 

In short, no matter your size or shape, whether you’re into pantsuits or feather boas, your clothes should make you happy.
